Dear Parents,

09 road trip (44)

Road Trip 2016
We had a great time away with our senior students on their “Road Trip” last week.  The earthquakes in Wellington meant we had to change our plans on the go, find alternative accommodation, and concoct a new itinerary, all within budget.  Although this seemed like a problem at the time, we are grateful for the way things worked out, and I think we were able to provide an even better itinerary than our original plan.

We spent the week in the Taupo /Rotorua area, visited the Lake Taupo Christian School, glassblowing, the Waiouru Army Museum, swimming pools in Taupo, Gondola and luge riding in Rotorua, mountain biking, jet boat sprint rides, and explored thermal areas in Rotorua and gold mining tunnels in Karangahake gorge.  In addition to all this, we had some good times of reading and discussing Scripture, praying together, and some good old-fashioned home-grown fun together.

I was really grateful for the way the students pitched in to help so willingly, adapted to the changes in plans, and participated so fully and with a great sense of fun and adventure throughout the week.  Thank you, Sharon, for overseeing our food requirements, and Cindy, for coming along to support and add to the fun. Thank you to the Cullen family for helping with planning and for providing their van for the week.  And thank you, God, for Your protection and blessings on our trip – we had a great adventure!

For more photos of our Road Trip, check out the “Events” section of our School Newspaper.

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch…

Rita, with help from Leigh Balemi [thanks, Leigh], ran the school while the seniors were away on Road Trip.  On Thursday, they had a visit from Timaru Christian School, who had been touring Northland last week.  They wanted to come and visit our school on their way home to Timaru, and they presented us with gifts of books and equipment that the students had purchased for us with fundraising money they had earned previously.  We are very grateful for their generosity and their desire to bless us.

School Photos tomorrow, Tuesday, 22 November:

Just a reminder that Sarah Prior will be here tomorrow morning to take class photos and individual/family portraits. Please make sure your children come looking neat and tidy! If you would like to request a portrait sitting for your child[ren], you will need to let us know first thing in the morning.

Cricket Tournament, Thursday, 24 November, can you help?

We are running the inter-school cricket tournament this week, and we need a parent or two who would be willing to help organise and perhaps oversee the tuck shop.  If you can help, please see Peter or Sharon.

Curriculum Planning Meeting, Wednesday, 30 Nov, 3.15 to 4.15 pm.

We need to meet to start planning for Term One next year.  It always seems so far away at this time of year, but it will be upon us sooner than we think! Please can we have a parent from each family with children in Years 1-8 attend this meeting.

Our theme for next term is “God is our Protector and Provider.”  A unit outline is being sent home today with your child’s notebook.  Please read this over and prayerfully think about how we might explore this topic next term.

Awards Evening, Wednesday, 14 December, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Invitations to our end of year awards are being sent out to you this week.  Please keep this date free and plan to come along.  Relatives and friends will be welcome, too.

We had a good time with Otamatea Christian School on Monday, 7 November.  Although the weather had been very rainy for the preceding days, we were blessed with warm sunshine for our cross country racing.  After the racing, the Primary and Senior students competed with each other in a chess and checkers tournament, while the Junior Class children enjoyed a day of activities and crafts together.  Thank you to all who came along to help for the day.

We now need to collect in the Run 4 Bibles sponsorship money your children have raised.  Please encourage them to collect and return this as soon as possible.
